Not yet. High pH alkaline water must be bottled in glass bottles. Plastic bottles allow carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to pass through and it forms carbonic acid, H2CO3, thus lowering the water pH. Because the alkaline water is saturated with calcium ions, the carbonic acid can form calcium carbonate, CaCO3, and precipitate to the bottom of the water bottle
